ORDER OF SERVICE: Service of the Word p 38 ff

THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: Isaiah 6:1-8

When Isaiah was called to be a prophet of the Lord, he was given a glimpse of heaven. He saw the holy Lord seated on His throne, surrounded by angels who were praising Him. Isaiah was troubled because he was an unworthy sinner. The Lord assured Isaiah that his sin had been removed. The Lord then called Isaiah to be a prophet.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 85 on page 97

We can rejoice because our holy Lord gives us peace through the message of salvation.

SECOND LESSON: 1 Corinthians 142:12b-20

The Lord gives many different gifts to His people, just as He gave the gift of speaking in tongues to many of His first century believers. He gives each of us gifts and abilities that we might “build up the church” by instructing others with the gospel.

GOSPEL: Luke 5:1-11

Jesus calls His first disciples. A miraculous catch of fish prove to these fishermen and to us that Jesus is who He says He is. Peter,

James and John left their fishing and became “fishers of men.”

THE SERMON: Psalm 145:4

THEME: From Generation to Generation
