HYMNS: 93, 97, 315, 83/84, 95 vs 1-2

ORDER OF SERVICE: The Common Service, page 15ff

THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: Exodus 34:29-35

The glory of the Lord is radiant. After Moses was in the presence of the Lord to receive the law, his face shone so much, that the others were afraid of him.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 148 on page 121

The Lord’s goodness and glory fills all the earth with praise and thanksgiving.

SECOND LESSON: 2 Corinthians 4:3-6

The glory of God still shines through the saving gospel message which is to be proclaimed by all preachers. Unfortunately, some people refuse the message and remain spiritually blind, unable to see God’s glory.

GOSPEL: Luke 9:28-36

For a few brief moments, Jesus is transformed and lets His divinity shine through for His disciples and us to see and believe that He is the Lord of glory.

THE SERMON: Exodus 34:29-35

THEME: Listen When God Speaks

Note: We are celebrating Holy Communion today. The Sacrament gives public confession of our unity in the Christian faith as we joyfully receive Christ’s body and blood in and with the bread and wine. Since we follow the Scriptural practice of “close communion,” we ask visitors to see pastor before coming to communion.
