THE WORD
FIRST LESSON: Jeremiah 26:8-15
Jeremiah, a prophet of God, faced persecution because of the message God told him to proclaim. Yet, Jeremiah faithfully spoke the truth. He proclaimed God’s judgment on those who rejected his message and announced God’s love and forgiveness to all who in faith obeyed.
PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 42/43on page 82
SECOND LESSON: Philippians 3:17-4:1
St. Paul explains that many people continue to resist their Savior and their salvation. He then encourages us to stand firm in the Lord since we know that our citizenship is in heaven with our Savior.
GOSPEL: Luke 13:31-35
Just as the Jews rejected and killed the prophets sent by God and refused their message of salvation, so Jesus is also rejected and would soon be killed. However, through His rejection and sacrifice, we enjoy the gift of salvation.
THE SERMON: Philippians 3:1 7-4: 1
