HYMNS: 152, 141, 309, 158/164, 144

ORDER OF SERVICE: The Common Service, page 15ff

THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: Acts 13:44-52

Paul and Barnabas preach the message of salvation to crowds of people. However, jealous Jews stir up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and force them to leave. But God used persecution to spread His Word to many others, Jews and Gentiles alike.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 145 on page119

In love, the Lord continues to be merciful to us and bless us. He will continue to bless us through many generations.

SECOND LESSON: Revelation 21:1-6

John is allowed to see a new heaven and a new earth. In this new creation there are no tears, no sorrow, no death. Through our Lord Jesus, the heavenly bridegroom, we look forward to living in this new creation, our heavenly home.

GOSPEL: John 13:31-35

By carrying out the plan of salvation, Jesus brought glory to Himself and to His heavenly father. Although He is no longer with us in the body, He lives in us through faith.

Note: We are celebrating Holy Communion today. The Sacrament gives public confession of our unity in the Christian faith as we joyfully receive Christ’s body and blood in and with the bread and wine. Since we follow the Scriptural practice of “close communion,” we ask visitors to see pastor before coming to communion.

THE SERMON: Revelation 21:1-6

THEME: Our God Makes All Things New!
