THE WORD
FIRST LESSON: Acts 1:1-11
After Jesus finished instructing His disciples, He ascended into Heaven. Since Jesus left this earth, we will be His witnesses until He returns as He promised.
PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 47 on page 85
Jesus, the King of all, ascended to His heavenly throne amid shouts of joy. We join with the angel choirs to sing the praise of our risen and ascended Savior.
SECOND LESSON: Revelation 22:12-17,20
Although Jesus ascended, He does not leave us on our own. He continues to send the Spirit and to offer salvation full and free. We eagerly away His second and final coming when He will take us to Himself in heaven. So we pray, “Come Lord Jesus.”
GOSPEL: John 17:20-26
In His high priestly prayer, Jesus prays that His church might continue to know and believe His message of love and through that message enjoy unity and eternal life.
