ORDER OF SERVICE: the Common Service, p 15ff

 

THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: Genesis 11:1-9

When God created mankind, there was only one language. The sinful pride of the people was evident in their plan to build a tower that would make a name for them. But God confused the people and scattered them by giving them different languages.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 51B on page 87

We continue to pray that the Holy Spirit comes to us to strengthen our faith and guide us in holy living.

SECOND LESSON: Acts 2:1-21

God reverses the confusion at Babel as the disciples receive the Holy Spirit and are given the ability to speak in other languages. God gave them this gift that they might share the gospel with people from every nation. This is the beginning of the end times as prophesied by Joel.

GOSPEL: John 15:26,27

The Holy Spirit, who comes to us, proceeds from the Father and the Son. He testifies to the work of Jesus and brings us to faith.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is being planned for this summer. Tentative dates are Aug 15-19 in the evenings. Let pastor know if we need to adjust dates. VBS has a Western theme this year.


FOR THE LORD’S WORK AT HOME General $ $730, West LHS $200, Bldg/Imp $25.


DEAD SEA SCROLLS visit is being planned for Friday, July 9th. Ticket prices are $22, $18 for those 60 and above and children 4-12. Bus price would be $270 for a school bus, $450 for 47 passenger coach and $490 for a 55. Are you willing to spend a little more for a coach? Please give Pastor your input so that can be arranged.


WEST LHS has a number of sports camps this year including basketball, volleyball (girls only) and soccer. Ask Pastor for more information or a brochure.


GRADUATES Do you have a college or high school graduate in your family? Let Pastor know. They will be acknowledged and we will have a special prayer in church as well.


SUMMER SERIES Just a reminder that summer midweek services start this week. A sermon series on the Lord’s Prayer is a possibility.
