ORDER OF SERVICE: The Common Service, page 15ff (Weds p 38)

THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: 1 Kings 8:22-23,42-43

As Solomon dedicates the temple by praying to the covenant-keeping God, He asks that all people would praise God who keeps His promises.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 100 on page 104

The Lord’s faithfulness “Through all generations” gives every Christian reason to “Shout for joy” and “serve the Lord with gladness.”

SECOND LESSON: Galatians 1:1-10

Paul warns the Galatians not to put their trust in things which contradict the clear gospel and are, therefore, “no gospel at all.”

GOSPEL: Luke 7:1-10

Jesus healed a centurion’s servant. This centurion amazed Jesus with His faith. That faith was both humble about its own strength, yet confident in the strength of its object, Jesus Christ.

THE SERMON: Exodus 34:6-7

THEME: Honor God’s Name

ATTENDANCE AT THE LORD’S HOUSE 51

Note: We are celebrating Holy Communion today. The Sacrament gives public confession of our unity in the Christian faith as we joyfully receive Christ’s body and blood in and with the bread and wine. Since we follow the Scriptural practice of “close communion,” we ask visitors to see pastor before coming to communion.
