PRAYER: O Lord, our God, govern the nations on earth and direct the affairs of this world so that Your Church may worship You in peace and joy.

HYMNS: 234, 536, 411, 436 vs 4-5

ORDER OF SERVICE: Service of the Word p 38ff

THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: Zechariah 13:7-9

This stunning prophetic poem pictures Christ as the Shepherd who suffers God’s wrath on our behalf, and believers as the “one-third” who call on the Lord despite trials and tests.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 22 on page 71

This great messianic Psalm takes us to Golgotha and the anguish endured by our good Shepherd that we might be in His flock forever.

SECOND LESSON: Galatians 3:23-29

No matter what your race, gender, or social status, recognizing Christ in faith makes you a member of the family of God.

GOSPEL: Luke 9:18-24

Jesus told His disciples of His coming suffering, death and resurrection. Peter’s clear confession of Christ in the face of so much false information about His is a wonderful example for us.

THE SERMON: Luke 17:1-10

THEME: Soul-Searching Questions
