THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: 1 Kings 19:14-21

The Almighty God showed a doubting Elijah that he was not alone in his battle against idolatry. God had reserved 7,000 who still worshipped the true and only God.

PSALM OF THE DAY: Psalm 62 on page 88

David found rest for his soul in the loving strength of the Lord, even when the world bitterly opposed him.

SECOND LESSON: Galatians 5:1,13-25

The freedom that is ours in Christ is not to be used as a license to sin. Rather, we are to serve one another and live “in step with the Spirit.”

GOSPEL: Luke 9:51-62

Christ impressed upon His followers that discipleship means counting the cost and setting new priorities in our lives.

OUR FATHER’S BUSINESS

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is being planned for this summer. Please set aside August 15-19^th evenings. We will have a Western theme. INVITE UNCHURCHED CHILDREN TO OUR VBS.

UPCOMING Church council is scheduled for Sunday, July 18, 7 PM. QUARTERLY VOTERS’ MEETING is scheduled for Sunday, July 25^th after church.

DEAD SEA SCROLLS Visit is being planned for Friday, July 9^th. Bus will leave here at 3 PM. Ticket prices are $22 (group rate), $18 for those 60 and above and children 4-12. We will divide up the cost for 47 passenger coach (55 if necessary). A good guess is that amount will be somewhere around $15 each. We need to send in the money Monday, so your payment is needed.

THANKS to Pastor Robert Hellmann for conducting the service on Weds evening. (Pastor will be going to Trinity on a Tuesday.)

FOR THE LORD’S WORK AT HOME (6/20) General $928.75, West LHS $25, Bldg/Imp $300 (towards new window treatments from LA gifts toward parsonage upkeep).

MN DISTRICT CONVENTION The number of circuit pastors was increased. We are part of the Crow River Conference, which now has four. Pastor Dennis Strong from Loretto serves our area. We elected the following as District Officers: Pastor Charles Degner is the District President, Pastor Mark Schwertfeger is 1^st Vice—President, Pastor Donald Sutton is 2^nd Vice-President. Pastor Michael Hatzung is the District Secretary.
