WHAT ARE THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS? The Dead Sea is located on the East side of Israel. The country of Jordan also has shoreline on the lake. The Dead Sea is below sea level, has no outline and is the most saline (salty) body of water in the world. There are some caves in the area. About 2000 years ago some people hid precious documents in those caves. Since books hadn’t been invented yet, scrolls served in their place. Some of the fragments people found are over 2000 years old and include fragments of the earliest known texts of the Old Testament.

THE SAINT JOHN’S BIBLE is history’s newest hand-written Bible. They use ancient techniques like writing on calf-skin vellum with quills, natural handmade inks, hand-ground pigments and gold leaf. This is the first complete, handwritten and illuminated Bible to be commissioned in 500 years. (Some information in last two paragraphs came from Science Museum of MN website.)
